Cover Reveal!: “Arcadia Falls (Arkadien #3)” by Kai Meyer

18053962COVER REVEALED!: “Arcadia Falls (Arkadien #3)”

AUTHOR: Kai Meyer

SLATED RELEASE DATE: February 11, 2014 (HarperTeen – North America)

OFFICIAL BLURB: Mafia clan leader Rosa Alcantara’s life is falling apart: everyone she loves is dead and everything she’s ever known about her family is a lie. Even so, Rosa and her boyfriend, rival leader Alessandro Carnevare, refuse to give up on their love for each other. On the run from their adversaries and searching for answers, Rosa and Alessandro begin to unravel the secret behind the conspiracy to keep them apart: an ancient prophecy that predicted the destruction of all Arcadia.

As the clock ticks down to their own destruction, it’s a race against time for the young lovers as they evade murderers, track down clues, and avoid a showdown with the man who wants them dead.

The pair must find out the truth behind Arcadia once and for all—but will it be the key to unlocking their freedom and future together, or the final step in bringing them to their knees?

Usagi’s Thoughts: I really, really love these North American covers compared to the original German ones. Rosa and the snake on each one and the different colors? Absolutely gorgeous. And I’m chomping at the bit for this final book. Good work, HarperTeen!

Ashleigh’s Thoughts: The only thing I dislike is the fact there’s a snake. Snakes for me = NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. But it gets a pass because it’s relevant and the cover still looks great with the textures and all. I really need to read my copy of the first Arkadien book soon!

Cover Reveal!: “Rome (Marked Men #3)” final cover piece!

Well, guys, Usagi here, and I won’t have stable internet until next week. So…we skipped a day in the cover reveal. Whoops. Here’s the final cover piece, and all of the information you need about this book.

Genre: New Adult
Published Date: January 7th, 2013
Synposis: Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .

Author Information

I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.

I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.

Cover reveal!: “When the World Was Flat (and We Were in Love)” by Ingrid Jonach

WhenTheWorldWasFlat-144dpiCOVER REVEALED!: “When the World Was Flat (and We Were in Love)”

AUTHOR: Ingrid Jonach

SLATED RELEASE DATE: September 3, 2013 (Strange Chemistry/Angry Robot – North America)

OFFICIAL BLURB: Looking back, I wonder if I had an inkling that my life was about to go from ordinary to extraordinary.

When sixteen-year-old Lillie Hart meets the gorgeous and mysterious Tom Windsor-Smith for the first time, it’s like fireworks — for her, anyway. Tom looks as if he would be more interested in watching paint dry; as if he is bored by her and by her small Nebraskan town in general.

But as Lillie begins to break down the walls of his seemingly impenetrable exterior, she starts to suspect that he holds the answers to her reoccurring nightmares and to the impossible memories which keep bubbling to the surface of her mind — memories of the two of them, together and in love.

When she at last learns the truth about their connection, Lillie discovers that Tom has been hiding an earth-shattering secret; a secret that is bigger — and much more terrifying and beautiful — than the both of them. She also discovers that once you finally understand that the world is round, there is no way to make it flat again.

An epic and deeply original sci-fi romance, taking inspiration from Albert Einstein’s theories and the world-bending wonder of true love itself.

Usagi’s Take: I’ve been waiting for this one for awhile because the blurb sounds AMAZING. Physics in my YA contemp romance with a dash of magical realism? Yes please. I can’t wait until this one comes out!

Ashleigh’s Take: Hmm… It’s very simple, but I like it. This may or may not be because of the key, seeing as I’m obsessed with keys and collect as many as I can. This particular key is lovely and I’d like to steal it off the cover. May I? Please?

Cover reveal!: “Teen Spirit” by Francesca Lia Block

18054018COVER REVEALED!: “Teen Spirit”

AUTHOR: Francesca Lia Block

SLATED RELEASE DATE: February 4, 2014 (HarperTeen – North America)

OFFICIAL BLURB: Julie wanted nothing more than to feel connected to her deceased grandmother, but when she actually makes contact with the other side it’s not her grandmother that responds, but a spirit that has its own sinister agenda…

Usagi’s Take: Francesca’s got a new book out with Harper! Yay! I still need to read “Love in the Time of Global Warming” (bad student, yes, I know), but from what this cover and blurb are saying, as well as how much I adore Francesca’s writing, I’m really excited for this book. Also, love the Nirvana reference!

Ashleigh’s Take: I love this cover. I really do. The pink of the planchette, the flowers along the edges,… I’ve been dying for YA novels where ouija boards come into play (no pun intended) because it’s such a simple, dangerous yet fun way to play with the occult and really throw in some horror. Anyway, this is a cover I want to see on my shelf. Looking forward to it!

Cover reveal!: “The Woken Gods” by Gwenda Bond

TheWokenGods-300dpiCOVER REVEALED!: “The Woken Gods”

AUTHOR: Gwenda Bond

SLATED RELEASE DATE: September 2013 2013 (Strange Chemistry/Angry Robot – North America)

OFFICIAL BLURB: Five years ago, the gods of ancient mythology awoke around the world.

This morning, Kyra Locke is late for school.

Seventeen-year-old Kyra lives in a transformed Washington, D.C., home to the embassies of divine pantheons and the mysterious Society of the Sun. But when rebellious Kyra encounters two trickster gods on her way back from school, one offering a threat and the other a warning, it turns out her life isn’t what it seems. She escapes with the aid of Osborne “Oz” Spencer, an intriguing Society field operative, only to discover that her scholar father has disappeared with a dangerous relic. The Society needs it, and they don’t care that she knows nothing about her father’s secrets.

Now Kyra must depend on her wits and the suspect help of scary gods, her estranged oracle mother, and, of course, Oz–whose first allegiance is to the Society. She has no choice if she’s going to recover the missing relic and save her father. And if she doesn’t? Well, that may just mean the end of the world as she knows it.

From the author of Blackwood comes a fresh, thrilling urban fantasy that will appeal to fans of Neil Gaiman, Cassandra Clare, and Rick Riordan.

Usagi’s Take: Loving that blurb and that cover! I’m hoping it’ll be just as good as it promises it’ll be. Looks middle grade, but I don’t mind that at all. Bring it on!

Ashleigh’s Take: Am I evil for looking at the lightning striking the Capitol and hoping a representative or senator in there is getting a wake-up call? Yes? Don’t care. Enough about me and my political crap. I LOVE the lightning striking the Capitol and almost everything about the cover. The one thing I don’t like is the Egyptian figures on the bottom left and right corners.

As for the blurb, I think it had me all the way back at “tricksters” and I’m looking forward to reading it ASAP.

Cover reveal!: “Playing Tyler” by TL Costa!

15777845COVER REVEALED!: “Playing Tyler”

AUTHOR: TL Costa

SLATED RELEASE DATE: July 2, 2013 (Strange Chemistry/Angry Robot – North America)

OFFICIAL BLURB: Keep telling yourself – it’s just a game… it’s just a game.

When is a game not a game?

Tyler MacCandless can’t focus, even when he takes his medication. He can’t focus on school, on his future, on a book, on much of anything other than taking care of his older brother, Brandon, who’s in rehab for heroin abuse… again.

Tyler’s dad is dead and his mom has mentally checked out. The only person he can really count on is his Civilian Air Patrol Mentor, Rick. The one thing in life it seems he doesn’t suck at is playing video games, and, well, that’s probably not going to get him into college.

Just when it seems like his future is on a collision course with a life sentence at McDonald’s, Rick asks him to test a video game. If his score’s high enough, it could earn him a place in flight school and win him the future he was certain that he could never have. And when he falls in love with the game’s designer, the legendary gamer Ani, Tyler thinks his life might finally be turning around.

That is, until Brandon goes MIA from rehab and Tyler and Ani discover that the game is more than it seems. Now Tyler will have to figure out what’s really going on in time to save his brother… and prevent his own future from going down in flames.

Usagi’s Take: I love the idea of “games” like this, so I’m pretty excited about this one, guys. And so far, Strange Chem’s lineup has really done well with fantastic books for their launch, so I’m hoping this one will be just as good as the rest. And tbh I love that cover. It’s very minimalist, but the poppies..delicious!

Ashleigh’s Take: I agree with Usagi: Great cover! Very simple and I love the poppies. However, I still can’t look at the cover without going “Wait, plane? What?” It never fails to shock me when I look at it because it’s makes the cover feel off–which is probably what they were going for.

What do you think of this new cover? Will you be reading this book? Let us know in the comments!

Cover reveal!: “Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)” by Sarah J. Maas

17167166COVER REVEALED!: “Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)”

AUTHOR: Sarah J. Maas

SLATED RELEASE DATE: August 27, 2013 (Bloomsbury USA Children’s – North America)

OFFICIAL BLURB: An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt.
But her heart never wavers.

After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king’s contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.

Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king’s bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she’s given a task that could jeopardize everything she’s come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon — forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.

Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

Usagi’s Take: Holy wow. This definitely represents Celaena’s character way, way more than the original cover for book one, IMO. I’m in love with this (and the cover redesign for the paperback release of book 1!). *grabby hands* MUST HAS.

Ashleigh Paige’s Take: Why hello there! Pretty pretty pretty. I love this cover, because of the colors and her expression, but I am a little concerned about her pose because it looks like the infamous(ly painful) boobs-and-butt pose, but I’m having such a hard time confirming it that I’ll overlook it. I agree with Usagi: MUST HAS. I’ll get it and the paperback together so they can pretty up my shelf!
