In My Mailbox: Week 59

What is In My Mailbox?
In My Mailbox was started in November of 2008. What it all came down to was this: I get books to read and then ultimately share my thoughts about with my readers. As much as I want to, I can’t possibly read every book I receive. Yet, I still wanted a way to feature those books on the blog, even though it might not be in the form of a review. Problem solved!

Week 59: Here’s what’s in my mailbox this week! Note that due to Sirengate, this may be my last week participating in this meme until I can figure out something better, as I have no wish to support someone who did what she did. :/

♡ GIVEN/BOUGHT/SWAPPED/LIBRARY:

1. “Bitterblue (Seven Realms #3)” by Kristin Cashore – via ARC swap (Thanks!)

2. “The Unnaturalists” by Tiffany Trent – via ARC swap (Thanks!)

3. “The Demon Catchers of Milan” by Kat Beyer – via ARC swap (Thanks!)

4. “The Hunt” by Andrew Fukuda – via ARC swap (Thanks!)

5. “Riese: Kingdom Falling” by Greg Cox (Thanks!)

BITTERBLUE. YES. That’s all I can say. Thank you, as always, to my partners at ARC swap – thank you, thank you, thank you! And I’m just as excited for “Demon Catchers”, “Unnaturalists”, and “Riese”! And of course, “The Hunt” was FABULOUS. I’m watching the original “Riese: Kingdom Falling” webseries right now (and you can too, through Syfy here!) and it’s just awesome. I can’t wait to get started on all of these!

Wow. My thanks to my ARC swap partners, Pyr/Prometheus, and Tor/DC for my mailbox this week! I’m excited for all of these titles – I’m glad I have a copy of “Invisible Sun” now and I’ve already started “Above” – it’s really magical so far but I can see why a lot of reviewers got lost in the prose. However, I adore it (what can I say? I’m a sucker for magical realism). I can’t wait to get to the rest of these!  Thank you to everyone who helped make this an awesome mailbox this week! ❤

I can’t wait to get started on “Tiger Lily”, “Once”, “Monstrous Beauty” and “Something Strange and Deadly”. I’ve finished “Loss” and “This Is Not A Test” and they were both AWESOME. Really wonderful books this week and I’m thankful for them. The library book was more of an impulse, I guess, because I’m counting down the days until the premiere of season 3 of “Downton Abbey”, so this should be interesting (I hope)! Thank you once again, everyone, for an awesome week!

Holy crap awesome week, Batman! Bookman, one of my favorite used bookstores had both “1Q84” and “Book Girl #4” barely read and on sale  so I paid $5 for the lot of them between the sale and the credit I had! And what I’m most excited about – “BLACK HEART”. OMG, screaming. Thank you, thank you, thank you to my partners at ARC swap for being so kind to swap with me, because I’ve been dying to read this since I finished “Red Glove” last year! And yay for “I Hunt Killers”, which has been hailed as “Son of Dexter”. I can’t wait! Also, finally getting to read “Hugo” – I still haven’t seen it yet and I’m waiting in line at the library to get the DVD, so I’m hoping it’s good. And of course, thanks to Klout Perks for the shiny new Tintin movie! I like Tintin quite a bit so I’m excited to watch it. I better get reading, since “Black Heart” is just so very very tempting…

Hooray, my librarything winnings came in! I didn’t know I’d won “Crucible of Gold” but gave it a try and found that it wasn’t for me. The rest of this week’s haul was pretty awesome – I’m working on “Elemental” now and so far it’s pretty interesting – my thanks to Spencer Hill Press for sending me a copy, and to librarything/DelRey for sending me “Uglies” and “Crucible of Gold”! Also a huge hug to my bro Michelle Zink for sending me a fresh new signed finished copy of “Temptation of Angels”! It’s already on my shelf and damn, does it look nice there. THAT AWKWARD MOMENT YOU FIND SHERLOCK HOLMES SLASH FICTION IN YOUR CLOSET.

Literally, I didn’t know we had these Sherlock-related books – but there they were! And you bet I intend to read them. I couldn’t pass up the ridiculously cheap offer of Best Buy’s exclusive Targaryen-crested edition of season 1 of “Game of Thrones” (it’s glorious!), as well as a B&N coupon for literally half off the “Downton” book (that one’s also going on the family bookshelf). My library yielded two awesome used bookstore finds – “Planet X” (it looks so incredibly awesomely trashy that I can’t resist!) and “Grand Guignol Orchestra: Volume 1”, I couldn’t pass those up at 25c and 1.50 each. And thanks as always to my partners at ARC swap for “Struck” – I’ve been dying to read this one. I need to get reading, and watching all of the lovely extras with “GoT” season 1!

3. “Downton Abbey: Season 2” – bought

A lot of fun stuff this week! First a huge thanks to the always awesome HarperTeen – you guys rock! I think I yelled when I saw “For the Darkness” in my package – definitely one of my most-excited-about books for summer! Thanks to Pyr for providing a copy of “Fair Coin” – it was great! And I couldn’t believe that Book Off actually had a copy of “Despera” – I’m a ridiculously huge Yoshitoshi ABe fan, collect his art and his books as much as possible, and I’d been wondering when this had been published when it just kind of showed up in front of my face in the store. It’s a little hard to read though because it’s written in pre-spelling shift Japanese, so I might have to use my dictionary and work a little harder than usual. Either way, I’m happy. And of course, I’ll watch anything with Billie Piper in it, and now that includes “Mansfield Park”. My library is awesome, guys, because they also had in the “HG Tribute Guide” – which was really fun to read. I’m so ridiculously excited for the movie now. And again, half.com is my shopping spirit animal since they had “Downton” season 2 for ridiculously cheap. I have to get to reading/watching all of this, now!

Can you believe that I actually found season one of “Downton” for $15 on half? I couldn’t resist.  I also had a wicked coupon for B&N that had me pay less than half for “Harbinger” and it seems like it’s taken me forever to get my hands on a copy. Thanks to my mother this week for buying me “Fever” along with “Incredibly Loud” (she wanted to read that and so did I, so that one’s for our family bookshelf). And my library is wonderful for getting in the second in the “Kingkiller Chronicles” (it looks like it’ll be awhile before that third book comes out!). Thanks to Tee @ Diary of a Book Addict for making me winner of her contest, I’m so glad to have a real copy of “The Pledge” now! And thanks to my usual partners at ARC & Book Swap – you guys are awesome.
